I have been a licensed esthetician since 2009 and I am in love with my skin. The ultimate goal of my education process in becoming a skin care specialist was so that I could heal my own complexion. Becoming a mother had really thrown off my hormones and my skin was not in the best of shape as a result. I wanted clear skin and to not have to rely on makeup to cover up problem areas. Waking up without blemishes or issues was my motivation. After years of multiple treatment solutions varying from expensive cosmeceuticals to prescribed medications I had found my CURE. Keeping it simple and calming my skin down, helped to eradicate the inflammation that was causing the pimples, helped to slow down the occurrence of hyper-pigmentation, which in turn allowed me to walk away from having to feel the need to slather on chemical laden sunscreens. This plethora of benefits saved my skin and I have been raving about the results for years.
There are 3 steps in my daily skincare routine that when done regularly have the capabilities to transform your complexion. Using honey as your facial cleanser, aloe vera as your toner and grapeseed oil as your moisturizer is THE best 3-step skin care routine I have ever experienced.
1. Honey as your cleanser is amazing! There are so any wonderful aspects of honey for your skin. Honey is naturally antibacterial and antimicrobial, plus it is hydrating, calming, neutralizing AND healing. Honey contains proteins, amino acids, vitamins, enzymes, minerals, probiotics and other components that it delivers to skin cells. This magical nectar possesses powerful botanical compounds that neutralize blemish and wrinkle-causing free radicals on the skin surface and within deep tissues, before they cause damage.There are, however, all different kinds of honey, depending on which flowers the bees feed on to create it. This is generally denoted in whatever the honey’s name is (orange blossom, sage, neem, etc). And yes, it does matter what kind of honey you use for your skin—namely it needs to be raw and unfiltered. You will want to dampen your face first before applying the honey as it spreads easily on wet skin, UNLESS you want the slight exfoliating effects of the sticky goo on your face raw which is great as well.
Massage it into your skin for at least 30 seconds and you could even leave it on your skin for 15-30 minutes before washing it off, as it only softens the skin the longer it sits. Use a warm washcloth to remove the honey, paying close attention to the area around the eyes.
2. Aloe vera juice as a toner helps to act as a second cleansing step, sweeping away any remaining debris from the surface of your skin and also prepping your skin for the next step of your routine. Aloe vera is a cactus plant that belongs to the Liliaceae family. It grows in dry climates such as those found in parts of Africa and India and has been used medicinally for centuries. Aloe contains over 75 different nutrients including vitamins, minerals, enzymes, sugars, anthraquinones or phenolic compounds, lignin, saponins, sterols, amino acids and salicylic acid, all very good and necessary for your skin. Aloe vera juice moisturizes so it is age defying as it helps to combat wrinkles and lines. Another great feat of aloe is that it contains two hormones: Auxin and Gibberellins. These two hormones provide wound healing and anti-inflammatory properties that reduce skin inflammation. Giberellin in aloe vera acts as a growth hormone stimulating the growth of new cells. It allows the skin to heal quickly and naturally with minimal scarring.
Apply the aloe vera juice to a cotton round and apply to your entire face, and can be used on the lips and lids as well. So lightly hydrating and nourishing!
3. Grapessed oil as a moisturizer is an unexpected delight. Grapeseed oil is suitable for oily or dry skin because of its healing properties. It contains linoleic acid, an omega-6 fatty acid. Grapeseed oil also contains antioxidants that can fight off free-radicals, those harmful substances that can get into your body and cause disease. Grapeseed oil is helpful in controlling the moisture of the skin, and also contains vitamin E. This essential oil contains vitamin D and antioxidants that will help to reduce fine wrinkles and lines over time. Healing and prevention of acne is another benefit of grapeseed oil. Acne can be a problematic skin condition that can cause scars over time. The polyphenols contained in the oil provide anti-inflammatory properties to help the blemishes to heal up, while the astringent properties of the oil help to keep the colonies of bacteria that cause acne in check.
After cleansing and toning your skin, apply a few drops of grapeseed oil to your fingertips and spread evenly over your entire face. It is best to apply the oil while your skin is still damp as it will penetrate deeper and absorb faster.
